Melbourne again

I’ve just landed in Melbourne and am passing the time in the taxi by writing a blog post. I’m here for a week of training on exchange 2010. My first foray into serious Microsoft windows land. The MAD (Microsoft, Active directory) guys laugh when I say the last time I used windows was Windows NT 4. What’s a UNIX guy to do?

I hope to hang out with some friends from Melbourne when I’m down here. So all is not lost.

Spring is here and the maggpies are out in force

After a long hiatus I finally made it out for a ride with the SCU Bike Group SCUMB.

Awesome ride, lovely weather. However the magpies where well and truly out in force. The only reason i didn’t get swooped like everyone else was because i yelled out so loud the maggie didn’t know what to do. just sat on the power line until I was past. Then sharpened its beak on the wire and swooped the next victim.

Still Bill

Still Bill is an awesome documentary. You know the music but do you know the man behind the music. A documentary about Bill Withers. Worth watching for great music in the context of the artists life.

Pocket Weather Au updates

What a funny Changelog.

The way we learn has changed since i was at school

Here is a great post about what a teacher told the parents of his school when he was rolling out laptops to the kids.

So far my kids don’t have iPods or computers and have had very little exposure to movies and the like. However as they get older  i want to make sure that my kids strike a healthy balance somewhere between “technology out the ears” and an Amish like lifestyle :-) . Where is the balance? Understanding the landscape is incredibly important.
